Wizard Chan

Wizardchan is a Japanese-inspired imageboard for male virgins to share their thoughts and discuss their interests and lifestyle as a virgin. The name of our website is inspired by the wizard meme, which refers to someone who has maintained his virginity past the age of 30. In contrast to other imageboards, Wizardchan is dedicated exclusively to people who have no sexual experience. Feel free to share your thoughts with fellow virgins, but remember to read the rules and the FAQ before posting.

Wizchan (currently at wizchan.org, originally wizardchan.org) is a niche imageboard with a somber history and a very specific target demographic.

1. Key Dates and Registration

  • Original Domain (wizardchan.org): The community first “showed up” in late 2012. The original domain, wizardchan.org, was registered on October 15, 2012.
  • Current Domain (wizchan.org): The shorter domain wizchan.org was registered on December 23, 2013, often serving as a fallback or primary hub during various periods of the original site’s instability.
  • First Wayback Machine Capture: The Internet Archive first crawled the original site on November 8, 2012. At that time, it was already established as a forum for “wizards.”
  • Launch: The site was officially launched in October 2012. It gained significant internet notoriety when Fredrick “Hotwheels” Brennan (who later founded 8chan) took over as administrator in early 2013 before famously resigning later that year.

2. What is the site?

Wizchan is an imageboard dedicated to a specific internet subculture of adult male virgins who identify as “Wizards.”

  • The Demographic: The site is strictly for men who have never had sexual or romantic relationships. It is known for being a “safe space” for this demographic to discuss their lives without judgment from the outside world (whom they refer to as “normals” or “normies”).
  • The Content: Unlike many other anonymous boards that are chaotic or aggressive, Wizchan is often characterized by a “doomer” aesthetic—heavy discussions on depression, social isolation, and loneliness—interspersed with hobbies like anime, philosophy, and creative writing.
  • Rules: The site has historically maintained a strict rule against non-virgins participating. A famous piece of site lore involves the founder, Fredrick Brennan, stepping down because he lost his virginity, which made him “unfit” to lead the community under its own bylaws.

3. What does the name mean?

The name is a combination of two terms common in imageboard culture:

  • Wiz / Wizard: This refers to a popular Japanese internet meme (and common trope in anime like Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai) which claims that if you remain a virgin until the age of 30, you will gain magical powers and become a “Wizard.” The community adopted this tongue-in-cheek term to turn a source of social shame into a shared identity.
  • Chan: Short for “channel,” the standard suffix for imageboards (derived from 2channel and 4chan).
  • Wizchan: Effectively translates to “The Wizard Imageboard.”

4. History and Context

Wizchan is often cited in internet history as one of the “depressing corners” of the web, but it is distinct from “incel” boards in its traditional focus. While some overlap exists, the original ethos of Wizchan was more focused on self-pity, resignation, and shared hobbies rather than the outward-facing anger often found in later manosphere communities. It remains one of the oldest active niche imageboards still following its original mission.
